Masonic Bike Ride Helps Bedford Fire Department
To raise funds for his town's Fire Department, Gordon Huggins of Frank W. Thompson Lodge in Bedford completed a major bike ride throughout the 14th District.
This ride was also to commemorate the 235th anniversary of the death of General and Dr. Joseph Warren at the Battle of Bunker Hill.
Dr. Warren was Grand Master of Masons in Massachusetts at the time of his death. Brother Huggins began early on the morning of June 17 starting at the Caleb Butler lodge in Ayer. He stopped at Tahattawan Lodge in Littleton, Joseph Warren-Soley lodge in Lincoln, Corinthian Lodge in Concord, Frank W. Thompson Lodge in Bedford, Simonds Lodge in Burlington, and Washington and Simon W. Robinson Lodges both in Lexington. He paused long enough at each lodge building only long enough to take a picture of his bike parked out in front. His journey was not without incident, however. He did have to contend with one flat tire. Thankfully, he carried a spare tube and after a quick repair he was on his way.
The funds raised will provide for the purchase of educational materials the Fire Department will use in conducting public safety educational programs.
